Why I Am Running

    • To stop Georgetown from becoming a high-tax, high-congestion city like Brampton
    • To fight plans to spend millions on a local transit service or subsidized housing
    • To take advantage of our natural assets like our beautiful downtown and ravine-trail system

      • To do everything possible to prevent anymore lockdowns or removal of our rights to freedom of health choices
      • To restore accountability and transparency to town council through forensic audits and in-person evening council meetings

Georgetown Businessman D'Arcy Keene

Candidate for Halton Hills Ward 4

Georgetown resident and local business owner, D'Arcy Keene, announced his candidacy today for Ward 4 on Halton Hills Town Council. Keene will contest the ward in the upcoming municipal election to be held on October 24, 2022.

"I'm running because I am very concerned about some of the recent decisions made by the town council," said Keene. "We are at risk of becoming a high-tax, high-congestion city like Brampton, and that's not the future I want to see for my family or our town."

Keene, a father of four and a long-time resident of the Delrex neighbourhood, is running for council to oppose wasting tax dollars on unnecessary schemes such as a local transit system or subsidized housing projects. Halton Hills should focus on proven winners such as the farmers' market, fall fair, strong support for local businesses, and improved GO service.

"We need Georgetown to stay as a low-crime, low-tax town," said Keene. "I love living in a community where I don't need to worry if I forget to lock my doors. It's great that I can let my kids bike down to George Kennedy Park by themselves, but I'm worried about our future."

Keene fought for lower density development as an active participant in the Destination Downtown portion of Vision Georgetown. Keene said, "We have a beautiful downtown, but it's in jeopardy because of decisions like the disastrous handling of the McGibbon hotel-condo development. I am worried that it's going to end up as another abandoned wreck like the Barbertown paper mill."

"For me, it's all about maintaining our quality of life here in Georgetown. If we wanted to live in a big city, we would live in Brampton," said Keene.

D'Arcy stays active with skiing at the local Glen Eden Ski Club as well as in playing golf and tennis.
