Accessibility Statement
The D'Arcy Keene campaign is committed to making this website usable for everyone in Halton Hills — including people who use assistive technology, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or alternative input devices.
Our commitment
This site was designed and built to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the Ontario standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). We don't claim perfection — accessibility is ongoing work — but we treat any reported barrier as a high-priority fix.
What we've built in
- Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements (menu, forms, buttons, links) are reachable and operable using only the Tab, Shift+Tab, and Enter keys.
- Screen reader support: images have descriptive alt text, form fields have visible labels, and headings are organized in a logical hierarchy (one H1, sections begin with H2, cards use H3).
- Color contrast: text meets WCAG AA contrast ratios against its background. Critical content does not rely on color alone — every status indicator also uses text or shape.
- Resizable text: the site uses relative font sizes so increasing your browser's zoom (up to 200%) does not break the layout.
- Reduced motion: we honour the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting in your operating system or browser — animations and parallax effects are minimized for visitors who set this preference. - Form labels and error states: required fields are clearly marked, and the contact, volunteer, and lawn-sign forms all return a visible confirmation when submitted.
- Mobile-first responsive: the layout adapts to viewports from 320px wide upward; no horizontal scrolling at any size.
Known limitations
We're aware of a few areas we want to improve:
- Decorative emoji icons in the platform and "Get Involved" cards may be announced verbosely by some screen readers. We're evaluating replacements.
- The animated number counters in the stats bar are visual flourishes; the final value is the meaningful information and is reachable by all screen readers.
- If you encounter anything that doesn't work for you, please report it — we want to know.
Alternate formats
If you need this site's content (the candidate's platform, donation instructions, volunteer information, etc.) in a different format — large print, plain text, audio, or in person — email info@keene4georgetown.ca or call 416-577-2260. We'll respond within five business days.
Report a barrier
If something on this site doesn't work for you, we want to hear about it directly. Please describe the issue (and if possible, which page, what device, and what assistive technology you were using) and send it to info@keene4georgetown.ca. We'll acknowledge your report within two business days and provide a fix or workaround as quickly as we can.
Accessibility at campaign events
If you plan to attend a campaign event and need accommodations — ASL interpretation, large-print materials, wheelchair access details, a quiet space — please let us know in advance at info@keene4georgetown.ca and we'll do our best to make it work.
